It would likely be better if this were implemented in Lua BTW, but that probably isn't happening.
Also, it'd probably be best if the template instead embedded a subpage of the user-in-question's userpage. Probably something like <code>User:{user}/inline-reference</code></noinclude>

This is a quick template I threw together because I found it a little odd that this wiki talks a lot about individual members of the user base/community, but no way to add a link or something.
